The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Swedish charge d'affaires in Tehran on Thursday in response to the burning of a copy of the Quran outside a mosque in Stockholm, condemning what it described as an affront to the holiest of Islamic sanctities. Iranian state media reported a statement from the ministry: "While Muslims are performing the Hajj... insulting their sanctities serves only to promote hatred and violence and to misuse the principle of freedom of expression."
