"Serious Concern" Over Threatening Messages on Twitter... What’s the Story?

The President of the Dutch Parliament, Vera Bergkamp, urged Twitter on Wednesday to take action to prevent threats directed at Dutch legislators through its social media platform. Bergkamp published a letter she sent to Twitter expressing her "serious concern" over recent tweets targeting members of parliament that contain death threats and "calls for violence and murder." She wrote on Twitter: "It is likely that the Dutch criminal law punishes these acts." The leader of the Dutch anti-Islam Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, has been a repeated target of death threats on Twitter for several years.
