The President of the Dutch Parliament, Vera Bergkamp, urged Twitter on Wednesday to take action to prevent threats directed at Dutch legislators through its social media platform. Bergkamp published a letter she sent to Twitter expressing her "serious concern" over recent tweets targeting members of parliament that contain death threats and "calls for violence and murder." She wrote on Twitter: "It is likely that the Dutch criminal law punishes these acts." The leader of the Dutch anti-Islam Freedom Party, Geert Wilders, has been a repeated target of death threats on Twitter for several years.
