UN Human Rights Office Calls for Release of Russian Opposition Figure

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, urged Russia to release opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Murza, who received a 25-year prison sentence on charges of treason. Turk stated in a statement: "No one should be deprived of their freedom for exercising their human rights, and I call on the Russian authorities to release him without delay." He added: "The judgment is another blow to the rule of law and civil society space in the Russian Federation."
