Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated on Wednesday that Russia will respond "severely" if it faces further attacks from militants entering its territory from Ukraine.
Shoigu told Ministry of Defense officials in comments published by the ministry: "We will continue to respond to such actions by Ukrainian militants quickly and with extreme severity."
The Russian military announced on Tuesday that it had repelled militants who attacked a Russian border area with armored vehicles the day before, adding that its forces killed more than 70 "Ukrainian nationalists" and forced the remaining ones to withdraw to Ukraine.
