British Treasury Minister Jeremy Hunt indicated today, Sunday, that he hopes to reduce taxes in the long term, noting that he will not make any significant moves in this regard in the budget statement to be issued later this week. In an interview with Sky News, Hunt stated, "Any Conservative government will lower taxes whenever we can, but our funds will not run out; we will be responsible for public finances." A tax and spending plan is scheduled to be announced in Parliament on Wednesday. Hunt expressed his desire to remove barriers preventing people in the UK from returning to work, instead of filling vacant positions through incoming immigration. He continued, "I aim to encourage investment from companies to increase productivity, while still focusing on addressing the shortfall in public finances." Hunt added, "What you will also learn on Wednesday is that we have a plan to tackle the biggest problems we face as a country, whether it's a lack of investment or whether companies are unable to hire."
