Khatib: Urgent Election of a President for the Republic

The Deputy Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, Sheikh Ali Khatib, asserted during his meeting with former minister Najib Bustani at the council's headquarters that "the dangerous conditions being witnessed in Lebanon require political forces to expedite the election of a president for the republic and the formation of a government to address the economic collapse and living crises that threaten serious repercussions." He called for "the establishment of a citizen state based on law and institutions that preserves the nation and all its sectarian components." Khatib also welcomed a delegation from centers and associations concerned with educational, social, humanitarian, and family affairs, and discussed ways to strengthen society with values, morals, and religious principles.
