The National Earthquake Center in Syria reported today, Tuesday, that an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale occurred east of Hama, 53 km away, at 6:52 AM. This follows the National Earthquake Center's report yesterday, Monday, of an earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale, which struck 80 km northwest of Palmyra, 75 km east of Hama, at 12:25 PM. After two devastating earthquakes exceeding 7 on the Richter scale on February 6 in southern Turkey, aftershocks have been frequent in the region, directly affecting northern Syria and resulting in thousands of casualties and significant destruction of buildings and infrastructure.
