Voters in Spain headed to the polls today, Sunday, to cast their votes in the regional and municipal elections, the results of which will serve as a benchmark for the general elections scheduled for the end of the year. Voting began at 9 AM (7:00 AM GMT) and will continue until 8 PM. Voting is taking place in 12 regions and 8,000 towns and cities, most of which are currently governed by the ruling Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.
