Honduras President, Xiomara Castro, has officially requested to join the New Development Bank established by the BRICS group during a meeting with the bank's president, Dilma Rousseff. The president visited Shanghai, where Rousseff formally received the application for Honduras' membership. In the coming days, a government technical committee will travel to initiate the process. Castro is currently on a six-day official visit to China. The bank's headquarters is located in Shanghai and was founded in 2015 by Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, members of the BRICS group.
