America Urges Israel to Respect the Right to Assemble Amid Protests

The White House urged Israel on Tuesday to "respect the right to peaceful assembly" after Israeli police arrested dozens of protesters opposing the efforts of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition to advance proposed judicial amendments. A spokesperson for the National Security Council at the White House stated, "We urge authorities to protect and respect the right to peaceful assembly... It is clear that there are important discussions and deliberations in Israel regarding the proposed plan. Such discussions are a healthy part of a vibrant democratic climate."
