Title: China Requests Embassies to Avoid

China has requested several embassies and international organizations in Beijing not to display "political propaganda" on their buildings, which diplomats have viewed as targeting missions that raised Ukrainian flags since the Russian invasion. Several foreign missions in China have displayed the Ukrainian flag, hung related posters, or showcased it using lights following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, leading to international condemnation of Russia.

Weeks after Russia launched what it refers to as a "special military operation" in Ukraine, a poster of the Ukrainian flag was defaced on the outer wall of the Canadian embassy in Beijing with anti-NATO writings, according to a witness from Reuters. Additionally, the embassies of the European Union, the UK, Germany, and Poland in Beijing have displayed images of the Ukrainian flags. These missions have not yet responded to inquiries for comment.
