Portuguese coach Paulo Bento announced his resignation from coaching the South Korean national team following their exit in the Round of 16 of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, after losing to Brazil (1-4). Paulo Bento said during a press conference, "We knew we were closer to losing, we faced a very strong opponent and things got more difficult after the first goal. We gave everything we had in the tournament; I want to thank my players and the fans for this period." The Portuguese coach added that he was happy to have led the South Korean team for 4 years, noting that he informed the Korean Football Association and the players of his decision to leave the team. Paulo Bento explained that he would take some time off in the upcoming period.
