G7 Supports Ukraine During Its Crisis

Ukrainian Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko confirmed today, Saturday, that a new international support package worth $115 billion gives Ukraine more confidence in its ability to prevail against Russia. Marchenko stated that G7 finance ministers assured him during the International Monetary Fund and World Bank meetings this week in Washington that they would support Ukraine as long as necessary, in a shift from last year when they pressured Ukraine to agree to end the war. He added, "Economic support greatly helps us as it provides certainty that the IMF, G7 countries, and Ukraine's supporters will intervene with funds to meet our needs for four years... If we compare this with last spring's meetings, I am more confident that we can win this war." Marchenko affirmed that the U.S. Congress will continue to support Ukraine with bipartisan approval despite calls from some Republicans to reduce funding.
