Ethiopia Initiates Talks with Oromo Liberation Army

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has indicated that his government will begin negotiations with the Oromo Liberation Army in Tanzania this coming Tuesday. This marks the first time the Ethiopian government has officially announced negotiations with this group, which has intermittently clashed with the government for decades. This banned group split from the Oromo Liberation Front, an opposition party that was also banned, but its members returned from exile following Abiy's rise to power in 2018. The group claims that the Oromo people have been marginalized and neglected by the federal government.
