Tehran Executes Swedish National of Iranian Descent

The Iranian Broadcasting and Television Authority reported that "Tehran executed an Iranian dissident today, Saturday, who was convicted of leading an Arab separatist group accused of carrying out attacks, including an attack on a military parade in 2018 that resulted in the deaths of 25 people." Iranian authorities had sentenced Habib Farajullah, a Swedish national of Iranian descent, to death for the crime of "corruption on earth," a capital offense in Iran. An Iranian court had sentenced Habib Farajullah Khab to death for "corruption on earth," a crime punishable by death under the strict application of Islamic law in Iran. In 2022, Iran began prosecuting Habib Farajullah for allegedly leading the Arab Liberation Movement of Ahvaz, which seeks to establish a separate state in the oil-rich Khuzestan region of southwestern Iran, and for planning "multiple bombings and terrorist operations" and carrying them out.
