Earthquake Strikes Eastern Japan

The Japan Broadcasting Corporation reported that "a strong earthquake shook eastern Japan this evening, but no tsunami warning was issued." The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that "the earthquake shook buildings in Tokyo and surrounding areas, but there have been no reports of significant damage." The epicenter of the earthquake was near Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, at a depth of 50 kilometers. In this context, East Japan Railways indicated that it "will suspend some train services in Chiba."
