Lavrov: We Hope to Resolve "Tensions" Between Azerbaijan and Iran Soon

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed hope today, Wednesday, for a quick resolution to what he described as "tensions" between Azerbaijan and Iran. The State Security Service of Azerbaijan has stated that it is investigating a "terrorist attack" after an opposition deputy linked to Iran was injured in a shooting at his home. Relations between Azerbaijan and Iran have strained in recent months following Baku's announcement of intentions to establish official diplomatic relations with Israel. There is a significant population of ethnic Azerbaijanis in northwestern Iran.
