Title: Arrest of a Suspect for Extorting a Minor and Her Mother

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division issued the following statement: As part of the ongoing efforts to investigate crimes, identify perpetrators, and apprehend them, information was received by the Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Protection Bureau of the Judicial Police Unit regarding a citizen, born in 2003, extorting a minor and her mother by threatening to publish inappropriate videos and images of the girl using WhatsApp. Consequently, a special group was tasked with monitoring the suspect and apprehending him. On September 7, 2022, in the area of Sidon, this group arrested him and seized his phone, which contained videos belonging to the girl that the suspect used in the extortion process. He was referred to the competent authority for further investigation, based on the instructions of the relevant judicial body. Therefore, the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces reiterates its request to citizens not to take inappropriate photographs or videos of themselves under any circumstances so as not to fall victim to exploitation by others, and to report such cases immediately.
