The United States Geological Survey reported that "a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck California." It clarified that "the epicenter of the earthquake was located 4 kilometers southwest of the state, at a depth of 1.5 kilometers." On April 29th, the survey recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 off the coast of Alaska, approximately 106 kilometers east of Chenik. An earlier earthquake of 5.2 magnitude was also recorded off the coast of the Philippines.
