The Egyptian Sovereign Fund announced in a statement today, Monday, that 17 alliances have been qualified to compete for the implementation of seawater desalination plants in the country. The statement indicated that the desalination plants will operate using renewable energy sources in several areas as part of the first phase of the state's seawater desalination program. It was further noted that the qualified alliances will be divided into four categories based on their previous experience in water desalination projects. The Sovereign Fund also clarified that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Finance Corporation will assist in structuring and implementing the first group of desalination projects in partnership with the private sector.
