Italy Rescues 1,200 Migrants in the Mediterranean

The Italian Coast Guard announced today, Monday, that it is conducting operations to rescue two boats carrying a total of 1,200 people, following an increase in the number of migrants crossing the Mediterranean Sea from North Africa over the weekend. Earlier on Monday, the German NGO "Sea-Watch," which located the fishing boat with one of its aircraft, stated that a commercial vessel in the area provided the boat with fuel and water, but Maltese authorities ordered it not to rescue the boat.
