Protest by Retired Engineers: What's the Reason?

Retired engineers announced in a statement that they held a "protest in front of the Engineers' Syndicate entrance in Beirut, called by the founding committee of the Association of Retired Engineers, coinciding with the elections held in the syndicate." Engineer Walid Sandid delivered a speech on behalf of all represented bodies and the candidates for the syndicate elections, urging the adoption of "just demands and their inclusion in the 2023 budget," noting that "these demands were presented more than three weeks ago without receiving positive responses." The retired engineers then held a meeting with the head of the Engineers' Syndicate, Aref Yassin, where there was "a long discussion about the proposals previously submitted by the retired engineers, especially regarding healthcare fees and pension salary. It was agreed to hold another meeting on the 13th of this month to review the budget items related to the demands of the retired engineers and participate in its report."
