Local media reported today, Sunday, that Pope Francis stated his intention to visit his home country, Argentina, next year. The pope has not traveled to his birthplace since leaving for the Vatican ten years ago. He told the Argentine newspaper "La Nación," "I always have the desire to return." If arrangements for the visit go ahead, it would be a year after the upcoming general elections scheduled for October. The newspaper quoted the pope, whose number of Roman Catholic followers worldwide is nearing 1.4 billion, saying, "Please don’t link me to Argentine politics."
