Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanani expressed hope that "the Lebanese society and its political factions will provide the necessary groundwork for the establishment of a strong government based on national interests." In a press conference responding to a question about Lebanon, Kanani stated that Iran's fundamental policy is to "support the national trends based on establishing stability, security, and calm, and forming a strong government in Lebanon in a manner that serves the interests of the Lebanese people, reinforces stability, and helps strengthen Lebanon's regional and international role." He noted that "Lebanon is one of Iran's friendly countries and good neighbors in the region, and Iran has always been on the constructive side of political developments in Lebanon, utilizing its energies and capabilities in consultation with Lebanese parties to support the political process there."
