The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Sunday, that three Dutch nationals died as a result of a light aircraft crash in a mountainous area in northwestern Croatia. Croatian aviation accident investigators stated that "the incident occurred around noon local time on Saturday in a forest near the town of Ogulin, after the aircraft registered in the Netherlands disappeared from radar during a flight between Maribor in Slovenia and Pula in Croatia along the Adriatic coast."
Chief aviation accident investigator Danko Petrin indicated that "everyone on board the aircraft was killed in the accident and that the wreckage sustained damage due to a fire." He added, "We will need to conduct DNA analysis because the crash site did not allow for an accurate verification of the number of fatalities," noting that two passengers were listed on the flight along with the pilot.
The Dutch ministry mentioned that the area is known for the potential presence of landmines.
