Senegal: Discovery of a Case of Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever

The Senegalese Ministry of Health confirmed a case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever at a hospital in a city on the outskirts of Dakar. In a statement, it was noted that the case was discovered on April 21 at a hospital in the city of Djidiouya. It pointed out that an emergency health response team has been activated to oversee the handling of the case. The World Health Organization states that "Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever is a tick-borne disease transmitted among humans through direct contact with the blood of an infected person or other bodily fluids, with a mortality rate ranging from ten to forty percent."
