Today, Wednesday, Numan Kurtulmuş, a member of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), won the presidency of the Turkish Parliament after securing 321 votes in the third round of voting to select a new parliamentary president. Kurtulmuş, representative of Istanbul, becomes the 30th president of the Turkish Parliament after achieving an absolute majority (301 votes) in the vote that involved 586 deputies. The parliament had failed to elect a president in the first and second rounds of voting.
