Dutch runner Sifan Hassan won the London Marathon today, Sunday, in her first participation in the race. She overcame an early injury and surpassed Olympic champion Peruth Chemutai. Sifan, who is 30 years old, completed the race in 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 34 seconds, following a quick finish in the last 500 meters.
It appeared that Sifan was experiencing pain in her upper thigh less than an hour into the race, as she stopped to do stretching exercises. This is not the first time Sifan has won despite facing challenges during a race, having secured the gold in the 1500 meters at the Tokyo Olympics despite falling.
