Beijing Subway Removes Mask Mandate

According to the Beijing Daily on Sunday, the Beijing subway has lifted the mandatory mask requirement for passengers, just days after a Chinese health expert stated that COVID-19 is no longer a significant threat to humans. Social media platforms have been flooded with news about the easing of regulations, with one user on the popular Chinese social commerce app Xiaohongshu commenting, "It feels like an era has come to an end." Wu Zunyou, the chief epidemiologist at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, believes the pandemic is nearing its conclusion based on data from the World Health Organization. According to state media, this cancellation is part of broader measures implemented by China, which announced last week that wearing masks is no longer mandatory on public transportation.
