Russian Islam Makhachev Defeats Brazilian Charles Oliveira to Claim UFC Title

The main event of the UFC 280 mixed martial arts championship in Abu Dhabi concluded with Russian Islam Makhachev defeating Brazilian Charles Oliveira, earning him the lightweight champion title in UFC. The fighters engaged in an exciting bout, with the Russian fighter attempting to take down his Brazilian opponent and control him from the start of the first round. Makhachev succeeded briefly before Oliveira managed to get back on his feet. However, he found himself on the ground repeatedly, but each time, the Brazilian escaped Makhachev's grip.

In the second round, Makhachev finally succeeded in bringing down his Brazilian opponent and controlling him, ultimately forcing him to submit. The referee intervened to stop the match and announced the victory for the Russian champion. Makhachev thus brought the UFC lightweight title back to Russia, a title that had previously been held by his compatriot, retired star Khabib Nurmagomedov, marking the first time in his country's history.

This victory marked Makhachev's 23rd win against a single loss, while Oliveira suffered his ninth defeat compared to 33 wins.
