Microsoft Violates Children's Privacy

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission stated that "Microsoft" will pay $20 million to settle charges brought against it by the commission after the tech giant illegally collected personal information from children without their parents' consent. The commission added in a statement yesterday that the company is accused of gathering personal information from children participating in the Xbox gaming system without obtaining parental permission, while retaining that information. It stated that it will expand the application of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act to include all gaming companies that share children's data with Microsoft.
