Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov confirmed today, Friday, that Russia and the United States are still in contact regarding the New START nuclear arms treaty, despite Moscow having suspended its participation in the agreement, according to the RIA Novosti news agency. Ryabkov noted that he does not expect significant progress from the communication between Moscow and Washington. The treaty, signed in 2010, sets the number of strategic nuclear warheads that each side can deploy. Last month, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the suspension of Moscow's participation in the treaty, accusing the United States of trying to inflict a "strategic defeat" on Russia in Ukraine.
