The United States confirmed that it will work with allies to address the "distortion of memory chip markets due to actions taken by China" after China's Cyberspace Administration announced that products made by American memory chip manufacturer Micron did not pass its network security review. Consequently, China will prevent information infrastructure operators in the country from purchasing from the company, claiming that Micron's products pose serious security risks to national security.
A spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Commerce opposed the "baseless restrictions" in a statement, saying, "This action, along with targeting other American companies, contradicts China's assurances that it is opening its markets and committing to a transparent regulatory framework."
