The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Ali Reza Anayati has been appointed as ambassador to Saudi Arabia, following the resumption of relations that had been severed since 2016, and the announcement of the reopening of embassies within two months. Anayati was appointed as the head of the Iranian embassy in Kuwait in May 2014 and was appointed as the director general for the Gulf region in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the beginning of 2019.
