Indian Army Under Fire in Kashmir Region

The Indian Army announced that "unidentified gunmen opened fire today, Thursday, on one of its vehicles in the disputed Kashmir region, resulting in the death of at least 5 soldiers."

The army stated in a report that "the gunmen threw grenades at the vehicle in the Rajouri area of the region, causing a fire and severely injuring one soldier. Operations are underway to locate the perpetrators."

A source in the Ministry of Defense reported that "Army Chief General Manohar Pandey informed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh of the attack." India has long accused Pakistan of fueling the decades-long insurgency in Kashmir. Islamabad denies this accusation, stating that it "only provides diplomatic and moral support to the residents of the region who seek the right to self-determination."
