The governor of Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, announced in a post on his Telegram channel about an "explosion in the region, which caused a freight train to derail today, Monday," noting that "there were no human casualties." He clarified that "an unknown explosive device detonated at kilometer marker 136 on the railway line between Bryansk and Unicha, causing the freight train to go off the tracks."
Images circulated on social media showed several carriages of the freight train overturned with thick gray smoke rising in the air at the site of the derailment in the Bryansk region. The Russian Railways stated: "The incident occurred at 10:17 Moscow time (07:17 GMT). The locomotive and seven freight cars derailed and caught fire."
