First Successful Intestinal Transplant in the World

Spanish radio station "Cadena Ser" announced that experts from La Paz University Hospital in Madrid have performed the world's first successful intestinal transplant from a deceased person into a patient. According to the station's information, the intestine was transplanted into a 13-month-old girl suffering from intestinal failure, which was diagnosed a month after her birth. The station notes that after the successful operation, this hospital became the only medical institution in Spain licensed to perform all types of organ transplants for children. It is important to highlight that, given the characteristics of the intestines, the intestines of a deceased person have not been used in transplant surgeries before. The radio also reports that the girl left the hospital in good health.
