In an Arab achievement, Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani was elected as President of the International Basketball Federation during the General Assembly held in the Philippines, a day before the start of the World Cup. Sheikh Saud has previously held several sports positions, the most recent being the presidency of the Asian Basketball Federation for several years.
