Blinken Discussed Sweden's NATO Membership with Turkish Counterpart

The U.S. Department of State announced in a statement on Wednesday that Secretary Antony Blinken discussed the importance of extending the grain export initiative via the Black Sea in a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. Blinken also urged Turkey to support Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). U.S. President Joe Biden expressed his support for Sweden joining the alliance in talks on Wednesday with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson amid efforts to overcome Turkey's opposition to this move ahead of the alliance's summit next week.
