Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia's Commissioner for Children's Rights, revealed that her country has received over five million refugees from the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, including 730,000 children, since February 2022, stating that these children arrived in Russia with their parents or guardians.
In a press conference in Moscow, she noted that the Russian Commissioner for Children's Rights is not aware of any cases of children from eastern Ukraine being separated from their relatives and sent to an orphanage.
This statement came in response to what the International Criminal Court in The Hague said, which issued arrest warrants on March 17 against Lvova-Belova and Russian President Vladimir Putin for allegedly committing a war crime by forcibly deporting children from occupied Ukrainian territories. Lvova-Belova stated, "Those accusations are invalid."
