Casualties Among Pakistani Army Personnel

The Pakistani army announced today, Saturday, that attackers from Iran killed four soldiers from the Pakistani border patrol. The army stated in a statement, "A group of terrorists operating from the Iranian side attacked a routine border patrol of Pakistani security forces along the Pakistan-Iran border." It mentioned that Pakistani authorities are in contact with Iran to take effective measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future. The incident occurred in the Kech district of Balochistan province, which is located in the southwest of the country and shares a long troubled border with Afghanistan and Iran. Ethnic Baloch nationalist groups in the area claim they are fighting for a larger share of regional resources. The resource-rich province is also home to the Gwadar Port, which is being developed with funding from Beijing as part of Chinese investments amounting to $65 billion.
