Guterres Condemns Airstrike on Omdurman

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned an airstrike that reportedly killed at least 22 people in the Sudanese city of Omdurman on Saturday. A statement issued by the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, stated that Guterres is shocked by reports of widespread violence and casualties in the Sudanese region of Darfur. The statement added that Guterres "also expressed concern about the resurgence of fighting in the Kordofan and Blue Nile states." He stated, "There is a complete disregard for humanitarian law and human rights in a dangerously troubling manner." Guterres reaffirmed his call for the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces to cease fighting and commit to a permanent cessation of hostilities.
