Lebanese President Aoun Discusses Post-UNIFIL Era with Italian PM Giorgia Meloni

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun continued his diplomatic engagements in Rome, meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Thursday evening. Aoun urged Meloni to apply pressure on Israel to adhere to the framework agreement and discussed Italy's contributions to fostering security and stability in Southern Lebanon in the context of the post-UNIFIL era.
Meanwhile, Lebanon remains a focal point in high-level discussions, with the Lebanese file also on the agenda for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's upcoming talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, set for this Sunday and Monday in Paris.
In his meeting with Prime Minister Meloni, President Aoun emphasized the importance of Italian support for Lebanon, expressing gratitude for Italy's role in hosting trilateral negotiations and reinforcing stability in the region. They discussed the outlook following the conclusion of UNIFIL's mission and regional developments. Additionally, Aoun held discussions with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
