Trump Expresses Uncertainty in Iran Negotiations, Claims Hormuz Strait as 'American Territory'

US President Donald Trump has expressed uncertainty over who to negotiate with in Iran, citing the deaths of many Iranian leaders and questioning if anyone is willing to take on the presidency in the country.

Trump reiterated his stance, claiming the "Hormuz Strait as American territory," and emphasized that the US will not permit Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.

The president highlighted Iran's eagerness to strike a deal, predicting a drop in energy prices once Iranian-related operations conclude.

He further stated, "Iran is desperate for an agreement, but we are undecided if we want one."

Previously, Trump remarked that although Iran is eager to reach a deal, they have yet to agree to the "right deal."

During a late Friday speech, Trump noted Iran’s inflation rate is a staggering 300%, and mentioned that Tehran struggles to pay its soldiers and police officers.

Trump asserted US "full control over the Hormuz Strait," indicating that the economic shift against Iran doesn’t limit American military options.

Washington is preparing to impose what it describes as the "toughest financial sanctions in history" on Tehran, with US Treasury Secretary Scott Beisnen set to reveal details on Monday. In contrast, Tehran vowed a "devastating" response to new American threats.

Trump has also forewarned of economic repercussions for any country providing "vital support to Iran."

The US and Iran have announced ceasefire agreements twice, in April and June, to ensure free navigation through the Hormuz Strait as part of efforts to end the six-month-long conflict. However, these agreements quickly fell apart.
