The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a press release that Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Friday that reaching a political settlement is the "only right" way to resolve the Ukraine crisis. The statement quoted President Xi as saying to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, during their meal in Guangzhou, that all parties should accept a compromise to create favorable conditions for a political settlement.
A joint statement released by Xinhua News Agency on Friday confirmed China's and France's commitment to strengthening nuclear non-proliferation, nuclear disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
The statement indicated that the two countries support all efforts aimed at restoring peace in Ukraine in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, and oppose armed attacks on nuclear power plants. It was noted that China and France are determined to cooperate to address financial crises in developing economies and emerging markets. The statement emphasized the importance of supporting a rules-based multilateral trading system, with the World Trade Organization as the foundation of that system.
