EU Urges Belarus Not to Host Nuclear Weapons

The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, urged Belarus on Sunday not to host Russian nuclear weapons on its territory, stating it could face further sanctions if it does so.

Borrell wrote on Twitter: "Hosting Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus would mean irresponsible escalation and a threat to European security. Belarus can still stop this; it is their choice."

He added, "The EU is ready to respond with more sanctions."

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Saturday that Moscow plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
