International Criminal Court: Malian Rebel Committed War Crimes

Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court indicated today, Tuesday, that "Islamic rebel Hassan Ag Abd Aziz from Mali participated enthusiastically in war crimes." They pointed out that "Hassan led an Islamic police force that terrorized the residents of Timbuktu in northern Mali, particularly women who were subjected to rape, forced marriages, and sexual slavery." Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Mami Niang, stated that "what we are dealing with is a case of voluntary participation, with enthusiasm and joy, in criminal activity under the guise of religion."
