The Pakistani army announced on Saturday the killing of two civilians by Indian forces in the disputed Kashmir region of the Himalayas, marking the first conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries since a ceasefire was established in 2021. The Pakistani military stated that a group of shepherds was targeted in the Satwal sector along the Line of Control, which serves as the de facto border between the two nations, cautioning that it reserves the right to respond. It said in a statement that "the Indian army opened fire indiscriminately on a group of shepherds in the Satwal sector, in a display of its usual inhumane approach towards innocent Kashmiris." The statement added that the Pakistani Foreign Ministry condemned the killing of civilians and the violation of the ceasefire, summoning the Indian envoy to lodge a protest. Both sides had agreed to a ceasefire along the disputed border in the picturesque valley in 2021.
