AFP reported that a number of internet users experienced difficulties accessing their accounts on the social media platform Twitter or viewing certain accounts during the night. The website DownDetector recorded around ten thousand complaints from users facing issues with Twitter. The number peaked at approximately 00:35 GMT before stabilizing. The extent of this outage remains unclear, but journalists from AFP in the United States and Asia reported difficulties accessing their accounts. Digital platforms occasionally face outages and service disruptions. However, this technical problem comes at a sensitive time for Twitter, which has been experiencing turmoil since Elon Musk acquired it for $44 billion at the end of October last year. Elon Musk responded to a user who asked on Wednesday if Twitter was "down" by saying it was "working for me." Outside of the United States, the number of users unable to access the service ranged from a few hundred to a few thousand. DownDetector noted that the outage primarily affected those using Twitter on the web interface, with approximately ten percent of complaints coming from users of mobile applications. The cause of the outage was not immediately known.
