The tedious scene in the ninth session dedicated to electing the President of the Republic has become unnecessary, with the repetition of the voting scenario in the first round leading to the failure to reach a quorum. It is clear that the serious direction to break free from this stalemate will only be through dialogue. This was called for months ago by the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, and attempts were made by the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, to initiate it. Berri renewed this call yesterday after more than a month since his previous attempt, which did not receive a favorable response from the two largest Christian blocs at that time.
At the end of yesterday's electoral session, Berri announced that "the last session for this year will be held next Thursday," hoping to gather opinions from all deputies and blocs regarding the dialogue by the scheduled date. He stated, "If it happens, I will turn it into a dialogue session; if it does not, we will move into the new year."
Political sources noted through "ANBA," that merely calling for dialogue and consultation signifies that the presidential election "is beginning to take on a different dimension than what we have witnessed over the past three months," which may increase consensus on the name of the person who is acceptable to the majority of political forces. This gives a positive signal for the localization of this entitlement.
